Last Thursday night’s “Songs for Socks” event was a huge success as our very own Dr. Weiss performed for a full house at Rare Olde Times Restaurant. The music was great, the atmosphere was lively, and the food was delicious. More importantly, however, is that we collected nearly 100 pairs of socks for the homeless in Richmond!
For the sock drive, West End Foot and Ankle has partnered with Caritas of Virginia. Caritas is an organization whose goal is to break the cycle of homelessness by providing a variety of programs and services in the community. Their services include sheltering, housing assistance, a residential recovery program as well as a career and job readiness initiative. West End Foot and Ankle is very proud to partner with such a valuable and much needed organization. We will be continuing to collect socks at our office at 7650 E. Parham Road, Suite 215 through the month of November.
We appreciate all donations and hope that we can do our part to make a difference in our community.
Socks are rarely donated to homeless shelters, and they are very high in demand. The average person who lives on the street walks a great amount and socks tend to wear out often, so it makes sense why they are so needed! Socks are beneficial when it’s cold because they help to prevent frostbite by adding a protective layer of warmth. Also, socks thwart
many foot conditions particularly calluses and corns (which frequently lead to wounds) because of the cushioning they provide between the foot and the shoe. Additionally, dry, clean socks can inhibit growth of fungus on the feet.
****** So, socks mean better foot health! ******
Let’s work together to put cold feet into warm socks this winter!
Drop off socks anytime in our office M-F 8am-3pm at 7650 E. Parham Rd Suite 215
