West End Foot and Ankle's Dr. David Weiss together with his daughter Lexi, raised over $2,000 for the Central Virginia Food bank's program, Feed More, a local hunger relief organization.
It all began when Lexi Weiss, 13, was assigned a school project: to hold a fundraising campaign for a charitable cause of her choice. For Lexi, the decision was clear; she picked a cause she could stand behind: feeding the hungry. She went on the Food Bank of Central Virginia's website and easily set up her campaign in a matter of minutes. The hard part, however, would be encouraging people to donate and reach her target goal of $1000. At the same time, Lexi's father, Dr. Weiss, who is a musician in his spare time, was scheduled to perform at Rare Olde Times Restaurant and that spurred on an idea. She approached her dad and asked him if he would like to partner with her and donate all of the proceeds of his performance to her charity. He was very receptive to the idea and together they formulated a plan to not only have attendees contribute, but to live stream his performance so people who were unable to attend, could easily donate to the cause as well.
Dr. Weiss was very proud of his daughter and loved the idea of working together with her for such a good cause. "It meant a lot to me that I could be part of Lexi's project and help her raise money for something so important. I'm very proud of her."
Instantly, Lexi and her father advertised the upcoming performance on their social media pages and Lexi made signs asking for donations that she would place in the restaurant during the performance. The surprise came when people began giving days before the event took place! Lexi's efforts were very successful in that she was able to raise over $2,000! It just goes to show you that this father and daughter team is unstoppable.
